In brief

Building bridges at the Specialist in connecting and bridge building! You get to work with sturdy wooden posts and ropes to make a life-size bridge across the river. But first you have to make a plan and design. And you have to make sure everyone knows and understands the plan. Because after that, half of the group will go across the river to start building from the other bank as well.

Of course, proper knotting instruction is given during this construction phase. If you have succeeded in building a solid bridge, then it may be loaded and tried out. Cooperation and communication is also very important in this phase because new forces are going to play on the structure!

Building bridges = bridging differences

Several variations and designs are available:

Build a bridge over a ditch, river, ditch or else an imaginary swamp. Which bridge will you build?

1. Rope bridge like the Indian bridge or the V-bridge
2. Pioneer bridge (as in Scouting) with round wooden poles and ropes (pioneer lines)
3. Bamboo bridge; symbolic arch bridge or a functional bridge made of bamboo canes
4. Dynamic bridge to cross the swamp (the Crocodile Jungle)
5. Quad bridge or even a Land Rover bridge: over which the vehicle can be driven!

Bridging

The challenging bridge building is suitable as a teamwork activity for a short team outing or fully organized team day from 10 people upwards. It can also be organized for large groups: up to 250 people at a time! Excel Events has enough materials and guides at its disposal to build 5 XL bridges.

Method and form of organization
After the instruction, the groups start working on the design; what is possible in this situation with the available materials: heavy wooden poles and rope. One can sketch a prototype on paper and build with the light bamboo poles to see if it could work.

Construction phase
Next, the 2nd phase begins: the construction phase. The tasks are divided and the construction process can really begin.

Construction
In the 3rd phase we will put the construction into operation and test its suitability for a safe crossing. This will also create a human and physical system in which the participants can play a role to balance all the forces and weights.

Different organizational forms
It is also possible to have different groups perform the construction phase in different rounds, always taking over each other’s work. Or we incorporate a competition into the program in which work is done in 2 or more teams: which team finishes first and which team gets the most people across the bridge? Bridge building can also be extended to bamboo building where symbolic towers are built on either side.
